Alright, here's the deal. You either get it, or you don't. Just got back from the Maiden show at Nassau Coliseum, Thursday, October 12th. Old time fan here. Saw them back with Priest in the 80s. Saw them again in Albany, 1991. Back then, I thought it was a self indulgent mediocre show, at best. Too much new stuff - whatever it was back then, Seventh Son or No Prayer, I don't remember which. But it was a let down. Still, not as much of a letdown as this evening.

What the F**k are the boys thinking? Opened up with five new tunes in a row before I decided to go take a big shit. I did, and it was the highlight of the new material, purging my body of accumulated waste. I came back ready for some old school Maiden, but instead was told that they announced they'd be playing the new album in its en-F**king-tirety. Thank you, boys! Never heard the new album before, as no one really in the States has. Was it the record company that was forcing you to force A Matter of Life and Death down our throats? To conduct their focus group live in concert at Nassau F**king Coliseum?

By the time the old F**kers got to some real music, it was around 10:30. The blisteringly stark contrast between the rambling new shit and tracks like Iron Maiden, Two Minutes to Midnight and Hallowed be Thy Name left no doubt that only moments ago had their heads actually come out of their asses. Did anyone think of telling Dave, Janick or Adrian to go and listen to some F**king Tool to learn how rhythm guitar has evolved? Some of the new shit would have sounded infinitely better if they learned how to play rhythm and not just lead. What the F**k? And Bruce, your theatrical gestures worked with the long hair, but not with the L.L. Bean haircut and the blazer. What the F**k? Was this Queer Eye for the Rock Guy? What the F**k were you thinking? All this show demonstrated to me was that, as great a F**king metal band as you WERE, you are stuck in the past and profoundly OUT OF TOUCH with the state of reality back here on earth. Why don't you watch where you're wandering?

What people were not pleased about was after the third song Bruce said we will be playing Benjamin in its entirety. That really pissed people off! The local radio station 106.9 WCCC (awesome station, one of the best in the country) had one of it's d.j.'s their and he said once Bruce mentioned that [playing whole new album] a LOT of people left, got in their cars and left the show. The lobby was jam packed with people until the last 5 songs and then the lobby was empty, he stated.

While leaving the show and walking to the car I heard a lot of people saying they were not happy!

I'm glad that I didn't buy tickets for the Detroit..oops, I mean Auburn Hills show. That setlist seems like it would be a chore to sit through.

I would have felt ripped off. Pretty short set list to begin with, but an entire new album? For me personally (and I own and like the new CD), I go to a concert to hear maybe a couple of the best new tracks and the rest the hits that I loved over the years. And hopefully a band will throw in some old favorite deep cuts. But a whole new record? I honestly think Maiden is trying to drive away their US fan base

And I guaranf**kintee this will be the last Maiden show I buy tickets for if this is the setlist they play. When I pay $70 to see a band I am interested in hearing their best, not their entire new album. I doubt I can even sell the tix I have with this news out. Maiden got me this time, but never again.....

I am going to the Boston show tomorrow. I like the new CD, but I would like to har more of their older stuff. I do not need an advertisement for their CD.

Looks like Maiden are playing the SAME BORING songs they always play. Well gee and a whole new album... uhhhh right. Wow like the fans have never heard those 5 songs before....say on pretty much every single Maiden tour ! Look Maiden are a great band, but they really really need to shake up the set lists, I was going to go to Irvine but forget it. God forbid they pull out something that would excite the fans like Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

If they are not going to do that, playing the entire AMOLAD is just dumb. If they are going to play an entire record, there are too many others that are way better to choose from, probably Powerslave or 7th son because the ones before them have already been focused on in the early days tour.

Bad idea this. The majority of the crowd will not be into the new album, most of the people come to hear the classics, this is just stupid.

Love Maiden, love the new album... But that's a SHITTY idea. Period. Especially considering they actually included Fear of the Dark...that whole album was completely disasterous... I'd have been EXTREMELY pissed off had I been there and paid a ticket for that...I'm amazed the crowd didn't riot. If Maiden wants to mix up their usual live set, they need to start including the old forgotten stuff like Purgatory, Prisoner, Aces High, Wasted Years, Remember Tomorrow, or whatever... Shows that they're confident with the new album, but it's a real ripoff to the fans who wanted to hear mostly old stuff with 2-3 new songs - which is, basically, everybody.

I was really upset I couldn't make it to the Maiden show in Toronto but now that I've seen the setlist I'm very happy. I wouldn't wanna go to a show that was almost all new songs from what is their worst album. I get what they are trying o do, prove they are still a band that does new songs but this is a silly idea

Maiden is always saying how pissed they are that the American audience only wants to hear the 'classics' and no one is into their newer stuff... so what better way to change this than to force everyone who came to sit down and listen to the entire new album live? Right, but I don't think this will be the actual effect. First, let me say that I absolutely love the new album, and still think it will be an awesome show. However, it is not a smart move by maiden. 1. They are going to really piss off all the older fans that have consistantly been supporting them over the years and paying money to come to each live show, they will not be interested in coming to the next tour... have fun playing the riviera in chicago maiden. 2. Although alot of the new songs kick ass, I just don't see them having the live fire of some of their older songs that gave me chills the first time I saw maiden live... it was one of the best live experiences I'd ever had. 3. They have to realize new people are seeing maiden every time they play, who have been listening to them for a long time... I'm sure theres alot of songs from their massive catalogue they would like to hear. 4. Even the people who love the new album are going to be bored by the fact so many other fans won't be into the show.

I'm not against it. But there does have to be a balance. Fans shell out a lot of money with certain expectations. If Maiden wants to do a show that's not for fans, but for themselves only, then why charge me an arm and a leg to see it? Shouldn't they just stay home and play for themselves? It would save us and them some good money.

It was worth it to hear a few gems. New album wasn't promoted here. And I actively CHOSE not to read about the setlist, etc., isn't that why we are required to write SPOILER in the title, so people like me looking for a NICE SURPRISE can steer clear of the breaking news that they'll be playing the ENTIRE f**king new album? Why not play the ENTIRE album NUMBER OF THE BEAST when you're through?

they sounded great as usual, but if they played any of there albums in itsa entirety, with the exception of piece of mind, it would have been a bit much. I dont have to pay all that cash to basically listen to the cd live. The audience response when they played the last five songs told it all.

btw i just want to say i have no probs with their new album. it's pretty good actually from what i heard. i just think it was unnecessary to play the whole thing and leave only 3 classics. and as for the not being able to buy beer thing i just wanted to vent cuz i felt like kicking that guys ass. haha jk. anyway. the show actually wasn't bad. i just really wish they played more oldies. a lot of people were upset... and especially when bruce ripped up the 'play classics' poster, people started walking out. just a shame.

I agree. I can imagen people going to the tour for nostalgic reassons only. Confronted with 72 minutes of AMOLAD before they hear a tune they know, is a valid reasson to be dissapointed. My brother was an old time Maiden fan, from the start upto SSOASS and then he kind off unhooked. He always asks me what the setlist is for any tour and then he decides if he comes with me or not. He had a great time on the Give me Ed and Early days tour. He was kind of bored on the middle part of the DOD concert and will NOT go to the AMOLAD tour. But he'll be there for the next history tour for sure. 72 minutes of unknown music is long. Try imagen a support act playing for 72 minutes and you don't know any song. It's a bit the same thing.

I saw Maiden last night at Nassau also, It was an embarrassment, a total waste of time, the croud new it & there was hardly anone there. I can see a riot starting soon in the US, for those of you who are just lurking on this forum, don't waste your money on this tour, that is what it was, a waste of $$!! I have to say I was unbelievably disappointed with this show and yes, I joined the forum for the sole purpose of warning people about this show. Yes, I am an older fan, having seen them many times in the 80's. You know what, each time I saw them they played new stuff and they also played old stuff too. Except for last night.

By the way, my wife's younger brother came to the show with my friend and I. He's 18 and a huge metal fan, Maiden being his favorite. He was unbelievably disappointed too. He said he thought this would be the greatest show he ever saw, but instead, it sucked.

Anyway, this was the most disappointing concert I have ever seen. The excitement mounts in the arena. After the opening band, I call my brother, a super huge Iron Maiden fan - he's even met them - and I leave him a message, "Guess where I am? At the Maiden concert. Call me back." I know he will be satisfyingly jealous. The crowd was as excited as can be when Maiden took the stage. Little did we know that our euphoria would be short lived. Opening song - unknown. Something from the new album. OK, get it out of the way. Second song - another new one. Well, no problem, we'll get to the good stuff soon enough. Third song - from the new album again. Hey, isn't that picture on the backdrop for The Trooper, maybe they will play it next.

After about 4 or 5 songs, Bruce Dickinson explains that their new album hit number 9 on the pop charts, which is the highest any Maiden album ever went, so they are going to play the entire new album. The once enthusiastic crowd now settles into their seats to wait it out. No point continuing to stand. Maiden proceeds to play the entire new album. Not that it's bad, but hey, IF I WANTED TO HEAR THE NEW ALBUM, I'D HAVE BOUGHT IT. I BOUGHT TICKETS TO HEAR THE MAIDEN I KNOW AND LOVE. It gets a lukewarm reception from the crowd.

Someone on the floor holds up a sign that says "Play Classics." I'm not making this up - Bruce motions for them to give him the sign. He takes it, holds it towards the crowd and proceeds to rip it up. He throws it on the ground and runs back stage (probably a good idea as I know I wanted to punch him from my seat in the upper deck). After an instrumental portion, he appears up on the back of the stage - well away from the crowd and continues singing whatever new album song they were playing.

Song 10 is the last one from the new album. Next, they play Fear of the Dark. Not what I'd consider a classic, but we go wild anyway. Finally some of what we came for. Then they give us Iron Maiden - awesome. My friend, a big Maiden fan and HUGE metal fan turns to me and says that of the first 12 songs they played, he only knew one. I wonder what the odds in Vegas would be for that. Well, I tell him, now they are playing the good stuff, so don't worry, this is going to turn out to be alright after all.

But wait. As the song ends, the lights come up and Bruce is saying "Thank You." Are you kidding me?

Maybe they will do a long encore, I say hopefully. They do come back out and play 2 more songs. Hallowed Be They Name and 2 Minutes to Midnight. Again he says "Thank You" and the lights come up and the roadies are packing. They ignore our applause and demands for another encore. Show over. It's only 10:45 p.m.

Never before had I seen a crowd so deflated and disappointed. Never had I been to a show that I knew couldn't not be great, and walked out feeling as cheated as I did. People were screaming and complaining. Thirty-somethings and forty-somethings who waited 20 years to see their beloved Maiden again were incredulous. Walking out through the crowd, all you can hear poeple saying were things like "How could they not play XXX"? You can fill in the XXX with just about any great Iron Maiden song from The Prisoner to The Trooper to really, anything else not on the new album. Younger fans look dumbfounded, with many a "what the f**k" bursting from their mouths.

In the parking lot, someone is asking me if I have any Iron Maiden CD's in my car as he wanted to hear Iron Maiden tonight, but did not. I could only empathize his frustration. Normally, after a great concert, I find I want to listen to a different band in the car ride home. As if I had had my fill and was satisfied. Instead, I drove home, dreaming about how nice it would be to hear Phantom of the Opera. Maybe I'll listen to it when I get home.

On the way home, my brother calls me. "How was it?" bursts through the phone before even "Hello". I tell him and he is in shock. Bruce was known to be a bit of a dick he says when I tell him about the sign ripping incident.

In retrospect, I have to say Maiden didn't give us their best. They took our money, and I think that was really the whole point. Get our money and try to push the new album to get more money. The song choices (obviously) sucked, the play was uninspired (though maybe they are just getting old, this was the first time I saw them from the 80's), I wont bother telling you about the prices for shirts and stuff, and even the stage show was weak. No explosions or pyro, nothing really happening. They brought out a big tank, but only for 1 song. Eddie came out for 1 song. That was it. With money and technology, I expected something much better than the shows of the yesteryear, but all I really got was a disappointing advertisement for their new album.

Thus, I signed onto this forum to warn anyone who may be thinking about going to see Maiden on this tour. Unless you love the new album, and I don't just mean love it, but I mean LOVE it so much you DO NOT want to hear Number of the Beast, The Prisoner, etc. Unless that is the case, do not, I repeat, DO NOT go to this show.

I am a long time Maiden fan from way back as probably many of you are. I spent 300 bucks to see Maiden at Ozzfest last year and we all know how that turned out. Beside that show, I havent seen Maiden in about 20 years. I was pumped when I heard they were going to play in So Cal and even more pumped when I found out it would be in Irvine about 5 minutes from where I live! Beautiful right, couldn't be more perfect. So I wait for presale and purchase 2pairs of tickets. Nice I get Orchestra seats. Now all I have to do is be patient and wait and I will be rewarded with all the great hits I been waiting to hear live for 20 years right. WRONGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I read the current reviews of shows and to my surprise, all but 1 of the reviews are fans like myself who are complaining they got ripped off. No Trooper, No Run to the Hills, nothing form Piece of Mind, nothing from Powerslave, 22 Acacia Av, NO!!!! What the hell kind of Maiden show is this. I'll tell you, it's a total snubbb of all the Maiden fans that got Maiden started. Bruce ripped up signs from fans requesting the great songs. Makes me wonder if Sharon is such a big bitch after all!!! I'm extremely disappointed to say the least!!! I'm selling my seats and hopefully someday Maiden will return to their MAIDEN ROOTS!!!

I do have to say that I’m very surprised to learn that some of you out there are WHINGING on about us playing the whole of the new record, well all I can say about that is Bollox, we are doing what we feel is a great set and want to share our enthusiasm with our fans for what is in my opinion our best record to date so please stop moaning and enjoy. We are not out to do a 'best of' tour. Been there and done that thank you very much, that is not to say that we will not do that again in the future, we most probably will, but until then, come along and enjoy a feast for your eyes and ears. what the F**k are these people on? if i was in bruce's position then i'd do the exact same bloody thing. you dont go to concert and hold up signs complaining about the setlist. bruce said he was gonna play AMOLAD so get over it!

If Iron Maiden played as often as they do over thre, id be glad to see a whole new album in thje setlist. Its not like Americans will miss out on a best of tour in the future, so why wouldnt they be happy with newer songs in the setlist for a change?

Woo! Saw Maiden Saturday night and I have to say those old bastards rocked! Excellent stage performance and very good sound.I liked the background imagery they used. I was in the pit near one side of the stage. It was a hot, shoved around, sweaty t-shirt experience. A few times I was hanging onto strange guys to keep from being knocked over and trampled on. One drunk guy behind me kept screaming "Iron F**ken Maiden!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!! Over and over. I won't repeat what he said about Bruce. But it was worth it to see Maiden that close. Especially Arry, who is now my cell phone wallpaper. /fangirl.

This was show #3 and again they played AMOLAD in its entirety. The new songs were received very well. Much more then I thought they would be. People cheered and head banged. While one round of hand clapping was started by Bruce, several others were spontaneous within the audience. Even Bruce remarked how good it was to see people getting into the new songs. After saying that this was their first top 10 album in the US and thanking people for buying it, he said they were very proud of it and that was why they played the whole thing.

The new song highlights were: These Colors Don't Run (a giant Union Jack was waved up front during this one), Brighter Than A Thousand Suns, The Longest Day and The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg. For The Greater Good Of God drew the greatest crowd response of them all I'd say. People were going wild and when Bruce sang "For the greater good" the crowd shouted "Of God!!" Familiar with the new stuff or not, the audience had no trouble with the sing along's. During The Longest Day the crowd sang first: "How looonng" then Bruce joined in "on this longest day". Out Of The Shadows translated well live. It was the only one Bruce introduced and explained the meaning behind. Lighters were aloft before he could mention them and I liked H's solo. The acoustic part of The Legacy was cool and provoked a second round of flames in the air.

I honestly can't say that any of the new songs were a total flop live. They simply weren't. However performing all 10 tracks did have its downside. One of the problems was that many of the songs have a slow outro or intro. It's fine to be whipped into a frenzy during one song then have the energy level drop off when the next one starts out slow and quiet once or twice, but too often is too much. The main issue I had was with Lord Of Light and The Legacy. Following the 7 minute Breeg and 9 minute Good Of God with two other 7 minute and 9 minute epics was well, too many damn epics in a row. Sure the Lord Of Light chorus was cool as was the acoustic part of The Legacy, but it would have been better if they were much shorter songs. Better yet, since Breeg got a great response and Good of God an excellent one, launching into a shorter fast classic at that point would have been ideal IMO.

The whole band looked like they were really enjoying themselves. Arry is a fiery ball of head banging energy. Many smiles from Davey and H. Janick is a goofball. I was on his side of the stage and he got the crowd going. Bruce was in a great mood. It was funny when he accidentally called AMOLAD 'Live After Death" and laughed at himself. He told us that thanks to the Philadelphia Electric Company, the plug that powered up Eddie's tank wouldn't work and joked that this was Maiden's biggest Spinal Tap moment. And I must add that he was wearing the most normal looking pair of stage trousers I have ever seen him in.

Now for the classics part of the show. When the band launched into Fear Of The Dark the venue erupted like a volcano! Just ask my dear Aussieroo friend, who got a surprise phone call at that point and got to enjoy FOTD, Iron Maiden and my screaming/singing till the connection cut out. Hey it's not everyday your phone rings and Maiden's on the line now is it? By the way I washed the shirt I got you. It smelled like pot and sweaty Maiden fans. PU!!

If the crowd went nuts during FOTD, it went berserk during Iron Maiden. The Union Jack was waving again! Good ol' Eddie made his appearance (minus his tank unfortunately ) provoking an Eddie! Eddie! Eddie! Chant. Nicko tossed some drumsticks and the boys said goodnight. The crowd began chanting MAIDEN! MAIDEN! MAIDEN! Then they came back out for three encores. 2 Minutes To Midnight, The Evil That Men Do and Hallowed Be Thy Name. The crowd went wild the whole time. After the final drumsticks and wristbands were tossed into the audience and the boys said their goodnights everyone stood there hoping they'd come out again. But alas the lights came on and it was over.

When I heard they were doing the whole new album my initial reaction was "They've lost their marbles! What the hell?" But I'm glad I didn't get all silly and refuse to attend the gig just because I wouldn't hear The Trooper and RTTH again. Maiden showed that they can perform in a kickass fashion whether the song is 25 years old or brand spanking new. It was a rare opportunity to witness them performing an entire album. They probably will never do it again and I'm glad for the memory. Thanks Maiden. And cheers to Bruce Bruce for remembering all those new lyrics. haha! I hope they return to Philly on their next tour.

I was in the hallway for a song or 2 during the show and saw many people bitching about the show and also saw people leave. Over the years I have seen many bands go on the road to push a new album but only play maybe 4 or 5 new tunes and the rest old stuff. I was in the lower level and everybody was sitting most of the show. Only time I saw people standing was during the last 5 songs.

I agree, not really the way to go. Most people want to hear the old stuff. Let's be honest, would you rather hear number of the beast, wrathchild,killers etc or the new stuff? If you rather that they played new stuff you are a fool

Were i was sitting i had an amazing view of the whole arena and from what i saw the majority of fans werent digging the new stuff at all, besides the people on the floor. Not to many people moved at all and were as dull as rocks, especialy by me everyone just sat there with sad/pissed looks on their faces. I F**king love the new songs and i wanted to start going crazy but the atmosphere around me really ruined everything for me and my friends. But my god did things pick up from fear of the dark to the end of the night. The mosh pits became intense, the crowd was going F**king nuts, and the atmosphere was just amazing, it really changed alot

Well, I heard one guy in the parking lot say that this was his last Maiden gig..."only five songs!" That was his message.

The idiots behind me on the NJ Transit bus were worse. Clueless..." yeh, I saw them in '99 at, I think, Irving Plaza, and they did all classics."

I wanted to turn around and set him straight, but didn't want to seem like I was eavesdropping. But the guy evidently fell asleep for a good part of the show they were saying. And they had nothing good to say...

first let me say i've been a huge fan of the band since 1982 and love these guys because i feel like i've grown up with them ever since and have seen them live many times throughout the years. saw the show last nite with my brother (also a big fan) and came away feeling somewhat dissappointed. while the band were amazing, great sound, bruce in great form, etc., the fact that they played the ENTIRE new album was a bit self indulgent for my liking. its good stuff and surely i would expect it to be a major part of the show but for the guys to play the whole album to me was beyond ridiculous. if i had known before hand i don't think i would have went.

i think if they would have mixed it up with a few more of their classics and of course showcased the latest material i would be writing a far more favorable review. when i stepped out to use the restroom during the show, i heard lots of negative rants from the guys amassing in the bathroom to smoke and complain to anyone that would listen. what a scene! lots of loud bashing from amonst these folks.

anyway, if you are a super huge fan of the new album, don't miss this show.
for me, next time around i will make sure to do my homework and try to dig up the set list before purchasing tickets.

Went to the Continental show last night. Let me start off by saying that I like the new album. But out of the past three, it is definitely the weakest. That said, I came to the show, intentionally unaware of the setlist, excited to hear them do some of the new songs as well as the classic songs that you go to the show for. I had actually listened to the AMALAD album in its entirety that day. Well, I got another chance. And when Bruce announced that he would do this, he seemed somewhat apologetic, like he was being forced to. I said to my friend that that was really funny and a good way to get everyone pumped for the classics...which became...hold it..another one...and..holy shit, he was serious. Some guy overheard that I was familiar w/ the new album and kept asking me if we were done yet. And of course, that same douchebag was there who's at every show I've ever been to thats standing stiffly and not moving a muscle and gets mad when someone gently bumps into him. The pit was depressing to say the least. Anyway, what the f? I'm perplexed. If they're bored of playing classics, well to tell you the truth, I'm bored of hearing them. How bout playing some B-sides. Flash of the blade! The real fans would go nuts. Do that instead of alienating thousands of people. So whoever enjoyed that should have their head examined. You could love Maiden and still disagree w/ them. Especially Maiden fans who pride themselves on being intellegent free-thinkers. What a stupid f'n idea!!!!!

I have to agree with Kabong, My first concert was the one in 83, and They Rocked. We also heard a lot of muttering about the show in the parking lot, I wish that they would have played more of the classics. It was disturbing to see Bruce Rip up the sign given to him, saying (play classics). Wish i was at PNC show lat year Kabong, that must have been a Blast.......

That was quite possibly the biggest waste of $60.00 I've ever spent.

I would be alot more receptive to the new music if you could sandwich some of the songs between "Killers" and "The Trooper".

I love em - loved em since 82, but I'm not going to sit here and tell you how great the show was - cuz it sucked. They are incredible musicians - sounded great, but no "Runnin Free"? No "Murders In The Rue Morgue"? No "Number Of The Beast"?

Fargin horsesh*t, lads.....

My money would have been better spent at the pub...

I've seen evert Maiden tour in New York since Killers and this was absolutely the worst show ever, but there are still the best! This album is no Operation Mindcrime and to only play 5 other songs was a waste of time and money. If they wanted to do the entire album, give us consumers what we want since we pay for your damn lifestyle, and do a full double set! I know Bruce hates the US fans because we only want to hear the greatest songs, but that's what we love,... not to sit through 70 minutes of new, questionable, material. Once Iron Maiden came on, we pushed our way past the posers and went nuts at the front. Those 25 minutes contained more energy and release than the rest of the show. I'd rather see the cover bands if this is what Iron Maiden will do in the future. How about they do a tour will nothing but fan selected write-ins? That tour would really be sold out and not have a 1/3 of the nose-bleeds empty.

Just got in and I will say this was the tightest the band has been in the four shows I've seen thus far. Bruce is starting to remember all the correct verses to the new songs. The crowd was very energetic. The highlight was when some idiot held up a sign that read "Play Classics". Bruce saw the sign, called for it, received it from the fans, and tore it in half!!!!!! This made the crowd go nuts, including me!!!!!!!!!!
