I saw Killswitch Engage recently in London. Seen them before that, but they put on a great show...I like their choice of song for ending the gig....Dio's Holy Diver  Wolfmother.... while I think they've been over-hyped and are not really deserving of it...,they are better than most bands getting around these days. Just another copycat band imho |

The line up isn't that bad. You got Maiden, Slayer, Lamb Of God, Machine Head, Motley Crue, Dimmi Borger and Devildriver.
Some great metal to be heard there!

I disagree, i reckon they are so f**king boring and repeptitive. I hope what sands said does come true thehehe! Id rather watch Killswitch Engage any dya over Wolfmother. yeah but you listen to bands that sing about goblins and warlocks, so I can't take this opinion seriously. ;D LOL man, once you realise I have never read a Lord of the Rings book, or ever watched the movies, im not a nerd like you think i am. I can sing their stuff, but it doesnt mean anything to me cause i dont know wtf its on about. Music is about drums, guitar, and the way the lyrics are sung, i seriously, 90% of the time do not F**king care for lyrics. The music in Wolfmother, drums, guitar, and singing, are all F**king horrible. I bitched about Fallout Boy in another thread, but F**k, I would rather listen to them than Wolfmother. I've given Wlfmother a chance to, they're one of my friends favourite bands, listen to all their shit, watched live performances, they just suck for me. You like maiden lol,. What do they sing about? See i dont even know. Whats so cool about 2 minutes to midnight, whats so cool about singing about war? Why don't you think thats lame? Just cause people are into fantasy, who F**king cares? I love escaping this world and just dreaming about stuff, being alone, away from big groups of people, hence my outdoor lifestyle. So i don't see the big problem in it. All you guys who hate it cause they're seen as pussies or something should meh, just get over it i suppose. Do you think they're lame for singing about fantasy? (I know skrabs wil highlight this part and say yes so F**k you skrabs). But yeah, lyrics are lyrics, if it means something it means something. Now don't think im pissed at you, but i just dont get the fact that some guys need their music to be about chicks (which i think in some cases ios disrespectful) or about war or about be tough and bla bla bla. All those lyrics are full of shit. They're fake, maybe thats why i don't like them. Fine, war, its alright, its serves a purpose to highlight stuff like how bad we've become. But i mean alot of the "HEAVY" stuff is about being tough n shit. Im not talking about MANOWAR either, they're lyrics are stupid but good at the same time. Bah, I've lost the plot, I'm pretty much talking about heavy aggressive band that you/sands/skrabs listen to. But yeah, do you understand me? Your music sounds too aggressive n shit, whereas Blind Guardian, its about triumph, its about overcoming shit, even if it is in fantasy language. If you break it down, alot of their stuff is about overcome challenges (albeit it in fantasy world), and struggle and crap. So meh, judge if you must, but it doesn't make you more of a man than me or them. |

I was just having a slight dig. Mate just because you don't like Wolfmother doesnt mean you have so say something like they "F**king suck", if you don't like them that's fine, but the fact is they arent shit musicians as you vaguely pointed out, they have made it big in the states which is an awfully big feat and you cannot deny the fact that you don't do that unless you possess something rather special, that people want to hear. The only reason I brought up the goblins and warlocks thing was to have a slight dig at you as I mentioned, because I truly don't like it when people (not aimed at you) say things like "that band is complete shit" when clearly they arent shit, they just don't do it for that particular person. I personally hate power metal and as I have said before "I would rather stick pins in my eyes that listen to it" BUT I have never once said that the bands that play that music are shit, because they are obivously very good at what they do. I'm sure we can agree to disagree on this, but i'm glad an Australian rock band is making waves overseas because there are far too many bands from here that don't even get a look in. Cheers |

Their tunes sound and look simple compared to stuff i see and hear, but don't hold me to that, but it does sound very simple. As for the US argument, well, i don't think they know anything. Look at the music they create, and all the crap that comes from their today, but yes, is good that an aussie band is making wavs overseas, but i really think there are better sounding bands, and better musicians than them. If that's what they choose to play then they don't need to be any better, people like it just the way it is. It's like any style of music I guess, you like what you like regardless of how technically good the players are. It's all good, I think we understand each other anyway. |

And yes, because it is aggressive doesn't mean it's negative.
I love my powermetal too, but the deathy vocals just pump my nads!!!!

Both of you are correct about being pumped up with the music. I find the heaviness lets me rock out and release energy which makes u feel so good, its like completing a jog and the runners high you get afterwards. But heavy music alone, with any beautiful melodies or beautiful tunes is just boring. I need both for me to like it. Or beautiful vocals. I cant get past a ggressive vocals, or growly vocals to be more clear, because it s o unds angry to me and i dont want it to be angry. The heavy music is the anger release for me, as well as a scream here or there, but other than that i don't want it in my vocals. Just reminds me of negative/anger and i dn't want that shit. Thats why i don't listen to so many bands.
With all this Wolfmother talk, I mean they even have sme cool tunes. But alot f their stuff is just boring and repeptitive to me, and their vocals dont redeem most of the boring music they play, so its a ose/lose situation for me. But yeah, rock on!
Back to the Download festival, sure i ont like many f the bands, but i could enjoy half of them, but it would be alot of money to fork out.

Stormster, I now officially envy you - I wish I hadnt seen a Lord of the Rings film - Peter Jackson owes me 9 hours of my life back!
I dislike like power metal to the extreme because I see it as a joke. How anyone can take a band in cod pieces brandishing battle axes singing about Odin and dying battle in order to enter Valhalla or about prancing around middle earth , I really dont understand. There are Lord of the rings books and movies - we dont need a F**king album dedicated to it aswell!
Now for wolfmother -
there is 2007 not 1969 - if i want to listen to music that soiunds like it should have been recorded over 30 years ago I will listen to a band that actually recorded it at that time.
PLus the singer has a really bad curly do that reminds me of Willie Mason ( all Melbournians with the exception of Mitch wont get that ! ) so I have to hate them :-) !
