G'Day All, I finally received your e-mail Stephen, sorry for the late reply but I was around Queensland way for a bit, busy as usual Wow does this bring back memories, trying to design and organise t-shirts online, good luck to whomever is going to organise it! It's not all bad though, but I'll give you a few tips to hopefully make the process easier. Firstly the artwork must have a resolution of no less then 300dpi to print onto t-shirts otherwise the quality is crap. This means you either scan an image onto the computer at 300dpi or creating it in a paint program from a plain 300dpi canvas. You can't just get a regular image of the web, plonk it into photoshop and change the resolution to 300dpi, it won't work. Secondly with screen printing colours, the price is judged by the amount of colours used, the most costly part of this is actually setting up the screens, once this is done the actual printing is not to expensive, therefore the more people in on the act the less the t-shirts will cost. I'd also advise to not get a full colour print on both the back and the front, this will blow out costs tremendously. For example they may need 5 screens of colour for the front image (screen plus printing costs) and then this is doubled by having another colour image on the back! Wayyyy to much for the pocket to handle. The best option is either a white print of the front image for the back or just a white print of the tour dates/names etc. Now costs...good luck! You may need to reasses the time limit you have given yourself because aquiring money from people is the hardest thing and I was left out of pocket last time because people didn't pay up! The best way to do it is to find a printer, check out their work first, printers can be very shonky and charge you through the nose if they think they can get away with it. Approach them with your general idea and they should be able to give you a good estimate of the cost. They also usually supply the t-shirts for you to at a cheap price. Once you have the printers estimate start rounding up money. You'll be lucky if it only takes you a month to do but for the love of Moses don't go ahead and pay for anything or order anything without the cash in your hand. If people are going to be tardy with their payments to bad! You'll end up out of pocket if you try to foot the bill yourself. Printing: The printer I used last time for the DC shirts was just a local melbourne guy, you'll find places wherever that will do screen printing for you. He was a bit dodgy so I wouldn't use him again. Whan you do finally get to the printing stage have them do a test print for you on the EXACT same material you'll have the shirts printed on. The reason the DC shirts turned out so dark is because the printer only used one underlayer of white instead of two. Check the quality of the print before the whole process goes ahead. Ow, also printers can be tardy to, don't be surprised if they leave it all to the last minute, it's just the curse of the graphic designer to do so. The t-shirts I used last time where a lycra blend I think. Your pretty mutch assuered little shrinkage and no stretching with a lycra blend. Try not to skimp on the quality of the t-shirts, your only going to do this once and an extra $10 dollars this way or that can make all the difference. Ask the printers themselves to, they have the best ideas and recomendations of quality. Other then this I think I just have to say good luck, the designs are very exciting and I do hope everyone chooses something original with a bit of Aussie flair to it. Churning out a ripped and overprocessed image is a bit lame arse. Ow and consulting the artist before you appropriate their work might be a good idea in the future, it's terribly shocking to see your work pop up on a site without being asked. I might do a few designs up though I rather think what you guys have going on here is pretty awsome. I'd love to see the finished result. All the best, ~Gloria P.S. Beetle I remember you asking for an extra tight t-shirt because you 'like it tight' though I thought it was to be worn on your upper body! A medium wasn't it Also what's with all the signitures at the end of each post? your killing my computer trying to just download the forum convo's. Excess!

Hello Gloria,
Good to hear form you and thanks for getting back to us, I am sure that we will use some of your experiences to ensure we get a good result.
Would love if you could get into the mix with a design, that'll be great! It's a shame that you have been shocked in the past, hopefully it wasn't anything more than a mistake.
Also it is sorry to hear you missed out on some money, I know it wasn't directed at me but I am upset by that, I hope it wasn't too draining. You should have said at the time maybe some of us could have helped.
Anyway, I hope all is ok and thanks again for responding. I hope you are going to one of the gigs, perhaps I can buy you a beverage, whilst I wear one of your shirts, they still fit which is amazing. Here's hoping that Beetle doesn't have a size issue either.
Cheers

OK. Im happy with this for the front. Please bare in mind that this image is less than half the size of the actual image that would be used in the printing process. Will work on the back later. All feedback welcome.

Yeah i'd say it'sless than half, that's probably about 40 dpi, instead of 300 dpi. Anyway do you think the text down the bottom should be brighter, i.e. be readable from further away?
It's looking so cool, i love the picture!! Exciting times are afoot!

It's looking so cool, i love the picture!! Exciting times are afoot! its higher than 40 dpi - closer to 100 if I remember correctly. Not much I can do without a 300dpi image to work with though - once the design is 100% finished then I will work on one that size. The actual image is 11x17 inches and the bottom text pops out heaps at that size. As for the whole dpi issue - if I use the printer I have in mind, it wont be screen printed so I dont know what dpi the image needs to be as yet - will know this week though.
