On Friday, January 1, IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain told Eddie Trunk — co-host of the VH1 Classic television program "That Metal Show" who has a long-running radio show, "Friday Night Rocks", on New York's Q104.3 FM — that the band will enter the studio in a couple weeks to start work on a new CD. According to Trunk, Nicko "said there was about eight songs written so far so the band would probably need to come up with a few more new songs while recording. [He added that] the material was a little different than past albums and they were taking their time with the recording schedule." McBrain also stated that the "new CD probably won't come out until 2011," according to Trunk. 2011 !!!!

"different to past albums" scares me a little. I dont want maiden changing their whole sound or something. Why couldnt hehave said "it will be exactly like BNW or DOD"?

I wouldn't read too much into the 2011 stuff - it was quoted by a drummer remember, not the most reliable of sources.

Based on previous album timelines I would have thought we would see the album in 2010 as originally indicated if they are going into the studio in a few weeks... You would think it would be recorded between now and the Euro summer tour and then released a few months later... similar to the DOD release timing in 2003...
Different to other albums doesn't worry me too much... maiden will be maiden... I don't want a DOD/BNW pt2... I think if they came out and said it was BNW pt2 or something then people would start criticising saying that they have nothing left etc... either way they won't win no matter if they say it is new or different... As long as it is a good album then that is all that matters.

This quote from IMFC Forum Admin....
"Don't believe everything you read on Blabbermouth.
From the Sonisphere announcement (made in 2009 so 'next year' is now 'this year'):
Prior to playing a few selected dates next summer, Maiden are currently working on a new album expected to be released late next year.
That remains the case. Any changes to that, we'd let you know."
