I remember seeing them at the F1 GP one year.... they were just playing during the day on the opposite side of the track from the pits where they have all the food/drinks/live bands...

Does that mean they're past their prime and not really worth seeing? O thought Deep Purple were mega-stars, like a mega-rock band. Haven't ever really listened to them.

They still seem to draw a crowd... but I was really suprised that day to literally stumble across them playing there in the afternoon. If you like them then that is what you will get live, I don't believe they sound crap live etc... but they are an old style rock band... doubt there is pyro etc...

Hmm, pretty damn odd that you'd stumble across such a well known band without hearing any hype. Oh wells, might get that cd ive never played before and give it a spin, see what they're like.

Yeah just had a listen to some of the songs. The stuff is alright but i don'tthink i'd go to see them. They have likes a bluesy guitar sound. I definitely like their keyboardiness though.

Electric Mary are the support band. They put on an awesome show when they toured with Alice Cooper so I'm quite happy they got this gig.

I may go and see this gig (Sydney). One of the bands I want to see before they call it quits.

I saw Purple when they played here about a week ago. They were pretty good, but not great. In fact they were about the same when they played here 4 years ago. Same line-up (only question would be the keyboard player) and they played pretty much the exact same set.
I think Ian Paice is an awesome drummer, and at his age he is very very impressive. Glover and Gillan upfont kinda look like they enjoy what they are doing, but Gillan's voice well.... he sounds okay except when he try's to hit the high notes/scream.... his voice just disappears. Steve Morse, technically is a very good guitarist, but I have to say he just looks and more importantly sounds out of place in purple.
In spite of all that, I'm glad I got a chance to see them it was a good show.
Electric Mary however were kick-ass! I was head banging from their opening song - i really dig their stuff, they rocked hard. I even read a recent interview with them, and apparently Adrian Smith saw them at a gig and was so impressed he told them that if Maiden had known about them they would have lined them up as their support act on their tour here in 08. That's a pretty big endorsement.

I must look into this Electric Mary! My mate went to a recent gig and said the same sorta thing, and as you said, to be endorsed by Adrian Smith. Wow!
