weve all heard about www.benjaminbreeg.co.uk and everyone pretty much decided it was a hoax - here is confirmation. this is the latest bit from the site - BENJAMIN BREEG; ANSWERS OR NOT?; 28/7/2006
At last. I have been contacted by the sender of the e-mail that arrived from Romania. After numerous attempts of mine to reply to his first contact he has sent another communication to me. Fortunately, this time in English. I hope that when I speak to him he will be able to explain the circumstances surrounding the nine words he initially sent to me.
The translation of those words is as follows;
HERE LIES A MAN OF WHOM LITTLE IS KNOWN.
My first thought was that these were the kind of words that normally adorn gravestones and, knowing that my cousin's first job was the inscribing of headstones, I wonder if the words are his.ANyway - at Iron Maidens site they are advertising ne benny breeg tshirts and what is printed at the bottom of the back of the shirt??? A MAN OF WHOM VERY LITTLE IS KNOWN...tHAT ABOUT SEALS IT i'D SAY - THIS SITE WAS SET UP by someone in the Maiden camp.

I guess this can go in here..(otherwise move to new thread) Benjamin Breeg (Born September 3rd, 1939, London) is believed to have been a writer and a painter that dissapeared on 1978 and hasn't been found since then. In the last couple of years, his cousin, A. Breeg (Name can't be found elsewhere) has been tracking him down, still with no more results than the discovery of one of his paintings, and a copy of one of his books. His name was used by the heavy metal group from East London, Iron Maiden, for the first single of their upcoming album, A Matter Of Life And Death. "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg" has given a lot of attention to A. Breeg's online project to find his lost cousin, because of the curiosity of Iron Maiden's fans of who was Benjamin Breeg. Theories have been put on the real identity of Benjamin Breeg. Some state that his story is a metaphor for Iron Maidens former singer Paul Di'Anno, some other state that Benjamin Breeg "is" Winston Churchill, while some other claim that Benjamin Breeg was some kind of fantastic being whose story was told to West Ham children at the time of his disappearing. Some even say that Benjamin Breeg is an enigma for Iron Maidens fans (much in the fashion of Pink Floyds Publius Enigma). Another theory states that there is a connection between Derek Riggs' first drawing of Eddie (which was based on the picture of a soldiers head on a Vietnamese tank) and the current cover, the thinking is that maybe the soldier's name was Benjamin Breeg. Nevertheless, one curious fact is that the www.benjaminbreeg.co.uk/ Internet's domain was registered a couple of days before Iron Maiden's web site announce the launching of The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg single. This really seem to back up the enigma theory.

The website is a hoax, it was for sale on ebay... someone set it up and then tried to sell it - based on the traffic it will generate with people searching for bb when the album comes out it would be a nice little advertising generator.... that is my understanding anyway... people are now perpetuating the myth by adding to wiki...
