who here went to the brissie show last night? i wanna hear a review.... especially about arch enemy Well after the longest drought in Brisbane in years the powers that be decided that a thunderstorm and constant downpour would be the order of the day, and as seeing this was an outdoor gig i spent most of the night in the beer tent fighting the flu. Missed Arch Enemy due to the closure of the freeway (i arrived just as they had finished) and popped out during Soulfly and caught most of Megadeth, by this point i was saturated and really feeling the effects of the flu. I didn't really have a good time due to the weather, flu and Brisbane's piss poor roadways.

That sucks because MEGADETH F**kING OWNED!!!!
I didnt watch Caliban or Soulfly, after 30 seconds of Soulfly i wasn't going to give them the pleasure of ruining my ears, that right would be reserved for Megadeth.
Arch Enemy, well, if they had clean vocals, I'd really like them. They have some AWESOME guitar tunes. I watched all their set, was pretty cool. They played Ravenous, about the only song I know, so i was happy air guitaring to that. Now Sydney's setlist was pretty much the same as Brisbane's, F**k it owned. I was in the mosh for the first two songs, but people pushing back and forth led to no air guitar space, and i need room to work my magic.
I had a difficult decision to make, either get close to the band or air guitar. I really cant get into the music without air guitaring, so i decided to head about 15 metres back. I found people just standing and watching, and enough room to work my magic, so that spot was mine! I spent most of the time not even looking at the band lol, i was just in my own world air guitaring.
Washington Is Next is a F**king top song!!!!!!!!!!!!
I met Andy and TY from LORD aswell. They had flyers and they gave me about 100 of them. I handed them out at the pub and got told to put it away by security because i cant hand them out... I was like wtf but i listened to them, dont want to have to whack them with Mr. Pinky.
Then the line to get into the venue was HUGE! Like, 500 metres. So i started giving fliers out as i was walking towards the end of the line, and about half way down the line this stupid old lady told me she'd ring the cops (she was securtiy) if i didnt stop handing them out. She didnt give me a reason but meh. F**k her. Gave around 100 fliers out. Alot of people actually knew Dungeon, so i just mentioned that this is basically the same band under a new name.
Maybe not worth 90 bucks, but hell its Megadeth and id pay 90 bucks to see them again. Photos of stupid drunkardness soon.

^ AMF said it all. The security and policies of the venue were totally retarded, as were soulfly and caliban, but AE and of course Megs were beyond awesome!
Didn't get to mosh as much because underages were placed on their own in a seated area, but by the end we were all standing on our chairs anyway.

Ahhh the kiddilies section... God bless their dear little hearts. Put a whopping great big smile on my face to watch em all goin off their fkkn NUTS up there. Hard to believe it was like watching us 15-20 years ago ROCK ON!!!! How fkkn good was that mate? WOOOO!!!! Tell me more Mitchy-bear, Lukey-pooks.... what was Arch Enemy like from a distance? See, I couldn't tell cos I was pressed up against some strange man who was pressed up against the front rail in the middle!!!! For about halfway through the first song all I could hear was Storm giggling his little arse off coz he was further down the front than Flippers. STILL cracking me up everytime I think about it. Ahhhh that was quite the crush. STILL waiting to see Leader Of The Rats played live, but who am I to complain... IT WAS ARCH FKKN ENEMY!!!! We Will Rise, Ravenous, My Apocalypse, Nemesis etc. Came outta there a little shakey in the legs, but twas all good stuff. Soulfly were actually better this time round than when we saw em last year. Not as sloppy and better sound. Poor Caliban, felt sorry for them, playing for not even half a crowd coz the dickhead organisers can't even work out when to open a friggen door on time to let thousands of people in. Was mightily impressed with Megadeth, they played so many old faves. LIAR!!!! AWESOME Man I'm so sore this morning even my toenails hurt!!!! Brekky time. GIGANTOUR RAWKED!!!! WOOO!!!!

Arch enemy from a distance were unbelievable! They were very tight, very energetic, i could hear them well, they had a good mix and a good sound, and they rocked my ass off! I only wish I knew more songs, they were fantastic. Yes, poor soulfly and caliban, but i really didn't enjoy their setlists. Caliban sound like slipknot, and soulfly were just... odd. but MEGADETH! ahh i can die happy now!!!! Awesome setlist, they played Tornado so everything is good now Devil's Island, Take No prisoners, peace sells, Holy Wars, and last but not Least In My Darkest Hour all totally went off... Except for this one assface who wasn't just sitting down in front of us during megadeth, he was ACTUALLY sleeping. He was lying down trying to get a bit of shut eye DURING MEGADETH! I kicked his chair a couple of times and said to get the f**k up, what is wrong with him! He also ducked out before the encore of Holy wars/mechanix/The Punishment Due and dave's touching end of tour speech. I've gotta go to school now, but i'll have more about the asshole security when i come back. There's a point to where you can do your job, and theres a point where you cna actually detract from such an awesome night.

We Will Rise, Ravenous, My Apocalypse, Nemesis etc. Came outta there a little shakey in the legs, but twas all good stuff. Arch Enemy stole the show. they were incredible. There was so much energy on the show and they really looked like they were enjoying themselves and getting into the show (unlike megadeth who looked like a bunch of stunned mullets). The setlist was brilliant too, and im bloody stoked that they played Dead Eyes See No Future, that song is brilliant, probably my favourite arch enemy song. soulfly and caliban were both absolute shit, crap vocals, generic songs that all sounded the same, pathetic solos, and pretty much nothing positive. Megadeth were alrite, they performed well but they didnt seem to really be into the show and there was no where near enough crowd interaction. The only part of megadeth show where there was really any energy or feel was when all of the other bands came on stage for a split second. Arch Enemy alone was worth having to suffer through caliban and soulfly though, they were just brilliant, if only they were headlining!

quotes Mitch: Megadeth were alrite, they performed well but they didnt seem to really be into the show and there was no where near enough crowd interactionAh crowd interaction? are u kidding me. where were you in the toilets the whole time :-XThe crowd went spastic I was up front one person in front of me, left side of stage I couldn't understand lyrics from AE but then I don't know their songs etc they did a brilliant show AE are tight precise and great but growls are not my style. Mega rocked although last years show for some reason rocked more I guess sitting through shitty ass bands at the start tends to tire you out before your fav bands come on. Security at door was horribly rude and assholes!!! I will dl some pics later although most have seen similar ones all over the net already LOL

Soulfly, pathetic solos!! Hey i know it's your opinion and you are entitled to it but i strongly urge you to check out Prophecy and Dark Ages because Marc Rizzo's flamenco playing is absolutley brilliant, plus the man's solos just shred. Live they are just a straight up metal band but on record it is a different story, spanish guitars, trumpets, ska, reggae etc. they just don't play this stuff live. Soulfly = groovy metal
