I called Metal Mayhem, even if you have those CD's you must still buy one from the store. They want to make a profit for having the band meet and greet as they run a business and its only fair so the manager said so,also BG has set most of these demands..but the store thinks it will run more smoothly if it happens this way! I think Ill give this a miss.

That's pretty shit. Too many bloody rules! You shouldn't have to buy another CD to get signed, bring them in from home. Ca$h in!!!!!!!!!!!!

^yep unreal huh, apparently the store has to pay security staff, the band etc so I was told, they need to profit to pay costs, ya would think BG's management would have that part organized, bahaha Megadeth even Metallica never ever made u buy a cd and have these strict rules when they came out and mind you they sold out under no time compared to BG's sale recently

Hmm, luckyily BG's management are to balme for such piss poor rules and not the band. But seriously, how long can u sit down and sign shit? Es[pecially afte rplaying a gig the night before and going to lay that same day. I realise that some rules should be in place, but if they are getting paid to do a signing, that is pretty piss poor. What do they think opf theior fans then?
AMF - who do i get in contact with if i want to pre buy an album? - can any of you down in melbourne pre buy it for me and i dont have a CC and wont be there til the thursday before the gig?

This is a response from Nik from Metal Mayhem when Anwar emailed him about whether he could buy a shirt instead of a cd or something like that. Anyway, yeah give it a read. Cheers to Anwar for posting it elsewhere.
The demands were put onto us by their manager - security, fee, time and people limit. Yes, everybody needs to do this as the financial cost to us is huge. We have to pay for the security guards - $30 per hour with a minimum call up of 4 hours, $120 per guard x 4 = $480.00 for security. I have to put on extra staff and pay them accorindingly, 4 extra staff at penalty rates = plenty. Finally, we have to buy all the stock beforehand. We do not have accounts, we pre-pay for everything, 250 CDs, this = plenty. Then there is the matter of an appearance fee, well, enough said.
We have never had demands like this, not even when we did Megadeth. One of the hardest things will be time limit. How do you get 250 people done in 1 hour? You cannot. If I was not a fan and wanted my own things signed, I would not do this. Honestly, what the thoughts of the people are out there at the moment, well, whatever! Take for example, if you had the Collingwood Football Club team over at your house and they demanded the above conditions, you would be forced to pay for security, staff, their food/drinks, etc, etc..... How would you pay for this - out of being charitable? Not when it will cost close to $7000!!! Being a fan of the team I can complain saying that I can go to the Lexus Centre and see them for free, get them to sign things for free and all the likes, but, that is at the Lexus Centre and not at your house where you have to pay for everything and at the Lexus Centre not all players will be there and it will not be an event.
Furthermore, bands like Metallica, Pantera (in their day) and all other bands that have in store appearances wherever they are have a strict one item purchase policy, even the no name bands that appear in these chain store. For some reason, because Metal Mayhem has had this forced onto us, we are getting flack. However, places like Sanity, HMV and JB Hi Fi, well no one really complains when they FORCE this onto the fans. People still go in large numbers, buy their item, get it signed and go home. There is a general lack of respect of the one place that is there for metal music and that is Metal Mayhem.
Dude, all the above, I did not even need to explain this to you nor to anyone and at the same time, I am not even having a go at you, not by a long shot, I am stating fact. If anyone thinks that this instore is costing us nothing, well read all the information again above and all people can have a think about it. I would love to come to your place, once maybe two to three times per year and then on special occasions when you host something that costs you plenty and puts you at a loss but sill put in my thoughts and comparisons, I doubt that you would be impressed.
All I can say, is perhaps get their latest LP if you do not have it. As far as t-shirts go, we are only getting in the Bard Song design next week and I think that we have the Tribal Dragon design left in stock and yes, we can allow this but the rule will still mean that only one item can be signed.
Once again, I really did not need to even explain myself or take as long as I have to write an explanation. I have done this out of courtesy and respect to you. What you decide to do is what you decide to do that is best for you. We have been forced into a position that we are not happy with, actually pissed off with but we have to accept it and make it try and work for everyone. The problem is, too many people take Metal Mayhem for granted and want things for free or nothing while not giving us their total support so most of the comments are water off a ducks back.
Just to reiterate, yes dude, if you buy a top we can get you in, but it has to be a Blind Guardian top. This is something that the bands manager insists on us, these are not our rules!
Bro, be safe and be well and once again, you do what you need to do I am just trying to assist you as best as possible.
Metallic Cheers,
Nik

Haha, I bet they wont have to worry about fitting 250 people in after all!! That's pretty lame though, charging the shop a fee AND hitting them with all the expenses Maybe people don't complain to HMV etc just coz there's only the staff there, who don't make the decisions and don't care... but HMV are big enough to fit in shoppers at the same time, so they don't have to have this pre-pay thing happening, I know, the situation can't be helped. I'm glad a locally is getting the gig though over a big HMVish thing... but at the same time, it's a bit dodgey that guy saying he's pissed off that people take them for granted and want free stuff, coz the fans would actually get a better deal if the in-store were at somewhere that could accommodate it better! It was a bad business decision, obviously, and he said he wants to do it coz he's a fan too, so deal with complaints but don't have a go at people for whinging! God, I'd pay $7,000 to have Bruce in my house!

It was a good interview. Hansi seems like a cool guy, he was really chatty and friendly, joked around and stuff.
