Ok, a few comments on metal radio in Australia. Prompted by comments about JJJ on another post here.

Firstly, I think Andrew does a great job in promoting metal nationally. He's got the chance to reach people that others in this country cannot. Secondly, being a national metal show, he cannot possibly play everything and really delve into a genre one way or another. You'll find that a lot of other metal shows delve into genres in more detail (such as my show) and there's more chance you'll find something you'll like.

Anyway, just a quick plug for my show. It's called Screaming Symphony and it's on 106.7 PBS-FM on Thursday nights in Melbourne (you can download our podcasts too although obviously the quality is not as good as radio). We play ONLY power and progressive metal (no heavy vocals; all clean stuff) and we've been going since 1999. We've got an interview with Glenn Tipton (Judas Priest) this coming Thursday evening. I used to listen to "Radio for headbangers, three triple rrrrrrrrrrrr" with Andy Accept & Fred Zeppelin a lot back in the day. Discovered many a good band listening to that show & the one on 3PBS

Andy and Fred used to be on PBS. Fred drops into our show once a year or so to either do an Aussie metal special or a 70s or 80s metal special. Still catch up with Fred at gigs. Haven't seen Andy around for a while (not since Jeff Rule's funeral a couple of years ago). Andy used to host Demon Night playing lots and lots of black metal. As I'm originally from the country, I never really listened to RRR (although they have a metal show that's hosted by Simon Lukic on Monday nights at midnight (so technically Tuesday morning). THis is unfortunate because RRR is a popular station and to have their only metal show on at midnight is rather poor. But it may be due to the politics rather than anything else. PBS has a number of metal shows.
