I went and saw the show last night in Canberra. The venue got moved from ANU to 'The Basement', a real 'dive' out in the 'burbs. I think there was no more than 70 people there.
I'm not sure who the first band was, they had the whole cookie monster vocals going on which is not my thing but they were ok.
The second act, Darker Half I thought were very very good. Technically very good, they had a good sound, the singer Stevo (whom I met at the bar after the gig and was a really nice fella) could actually sing and hits some real high notes. I was that impressed I bought their CD at the gig.
Dianno came on at around 10.30 ish. Killrazor were pretty good I thought. As advertised they played all of the tracks from the first Maiden album (minus Running Free) plus they played 4 tracks from Killers - intro'd with Ides of March - Wrathchild and also played Murders In the Rue Morgue and Killers. I'd not heard any of his solo stuff, but some of it sounded ok, and they ended the night with Highway To Hell which I thought was an odd choice.
Not a real big fan of how Dianno sings these days, he sung half the Maiden tunes in an almost death metal style, and given the extra pace that the songs were played at seemed to almost mumble the words to try and keep up. He also talks way too much, mostly dribble between songs but to his credit while he noted there was hardly anyone there at the start of the gig, he only mentioned it that once and then he and the band at least looked like they were putting in a full effort despite only playing to about 70 people in a half empty bar and he always thanked us for our cheers at the end of each song so I give them credit for that.
Anyway I'm glad I went and saw the 'original' Maiden singer and it's always great to hear Maiden tunes being played. By the time they were playing Phantom and Killers I was going off having a great time!
It was a pretty good night all in all.
