Beetle, may i be so bold as to suggest that your opinion of Maidens modern records might be different if they actually toured here?
Im not suggesting you dont raise valid points in your views on their songwriting and production values, but its all very subjective isnt it? There are many people who got into Maiden in the last few years who prefer the new albums to the 'classics'. That's beyond me, but as we have said, to each their own.
I know its a touchy subject, but i have certainly gone through some periods when i felt like stopping listening to them altogether, just out of the bad taste in my mouth from our constant snubbing on the tour front.
I got over it though...

no its not that at all to be truthful, I did manage to see them only a couple of years ago after all.
I just feel the magic isnt there anymore, but thats just me, I dont want to speak on behalf of others. I am a harsh critic and love the band to death BUT I just don't have that "feeling" anymore.

The more I listen to this track the worse it gets, it a poor mans Rainmaker and I am EXTREMELY disappointed. For christs sake the production on this song has completely ruined my excitement from hearing Benjamin Breeg. Oh i'm speechless, I was so pumped, now i'm just empty. Oh Beetle! I'm with you, man! I wish I hadn't left it on repeat! My first impression was of the distortion and bad quality - which I put down to compression... I joked to myself that Steve would like it like that : p I liked it though... I was surprised by the vocals in the chorus, sounding like a Tripple M song... The rest sounds more like BNW than Dance of Death to me... But now, after a few listens, it actually got worse, normally I appreciate songs more... Yes, thin, whoever said that... good point. As for judging the whole album and the rest of the band's career on this one grainy mp3... no way... This and BB suggest the album is definitely going to be different to the others, which I'm pleased about. I don't think they'll ever make another Powerslave, regardless of who's producing it... they were boys then, young and energetic... now they're mellowing and sitting back and looking at life from a different place and I think that's reflected in their music now... I think that's important.

But touring on our home turf is a very different matter. At any rate, it was just a suggestion...

At any rate, it was just a suggestion... I know... as I have said though... while it may not be "classic" maiden... they are still making music I would rather hear over a lot of other bands... so I still think we are richer for still having them than to lose them cause they don't beat their best ever efforts anymore... we will miss them when they are gone....

I got over it though... I did that and got over it too. I was most bitter after the BNW snub, but I really enjoyed that album. I think the subjectivity comes into it more in response to where you are in your life as an individual. When I liked BNW and their later stuff, also Bruce's later stuff, I was quite fed up, serious and reflective... I loved X-Factor when I was thoroughly depressed... I absolutely looooathed Tattooed Millionaire! AND NOW I can't stand all that... I'm at a stage in which I'm embracing being silly and enjoying stupidity and little things, and running about the world being poor but curious and sort of naive - now the soundtrack to my life is Powerslave, the old classics, cheesey Samson and boyish The Who songs : p AND, still to my own bemusement, I've even rediscovered Tattooed Millionaire! ~ She was a Zulu Lulu - wooo! ~
