Beetle, may i be so bold as to suggest that your opinion of Maidens modern records might be different if they actually toured here? Im not suggesting you dont raise valid points in your views on their songwriting and production values, but its all very subjective isnt it? There are many people who got into Maiden in the last few years who prefer the new albums to the 'classics'. That's beyond me, but as we have said, to each their own. I know its a touchy subject, but i have certainly gone through some periods when i felt like stopping listening to them altogether, just out of the bad taste in my mouth from our constant snubbing on the tour front. I got over it though... I did that and got over it too. I was most bitter after the BNW snub, but I really enjoyed that album. I think the subjectivity comes into it more in response to where you are in your life as an individual. When I liked BNW and their later stuff, also Bruce's later stuff, I was quite fed up, serious and reflective... I loved X-Factor when I was thoroughly depressed... I absolutely looooathed Tattooed Millionaire! AND NOW I can't stand all that... I'm at a stage in which I'm embracing being silly and enjoying stupidity and little things, and running about the world being poor but curious and sort of naive - now the soundtrack to my life is Powerslave, the old classics, cheesey Samson and boyish The Who songs : p AND, still to my own bemusement, I've even rediscovered Tattooed Millionaire! ~ She was a Zulu Lulu - wooo! ~ Good post, and good for you!

Good God, Gosh and all of that, I'm away for one evening and the whole forum goes berserk, so annoyed I couldn't be involved. Just finished reading everyone's posts and standing on the outside it seems 50/50 in regards to the feelings for and against Different World. Sitting on the fence (LOL ) I would like to add that there isn't anything that jumps out at me at this stage in either the negative or positive, I accept that others have strong opinions but I can not be swayed by a crap quality version of 2 more songs. I have enjoy listening to Different World and was quite impressed it does seem like the boys haven't gone to make a classic but rather something a little minstream, it has a catchy and fast framework with typical Bruce lyrics. It seems to be another example of a song that the crowd can sing along to, "live" is were I think you will see it's strength, Bruce bounding around the stage during the solo's trying to wind up Dave, Steve, Janick and Nicko. I almost see it as something they will use in an encore, A Different World is what we live in!! As for the one time I've listened to Brighter Sun, I was initially surprised that it sounds almost similiar to DW, need to listen again and I'm going to post now as I think my PC has just crashed, back soon!!

Given this album appears to have been written and recorded quite quickly... and that maiden have always been better live than on record... I think you are correct ST... I think these songs will show up better live than on cd... Can't wait for EC on 22/12... oh and 23/12....

oh yeah to each his own completely. I just can't get my head around why they can't reproduce energy to the extent of Aces High or Moonchild? It may be the production I don't know. To be honest being a drummer, Nicko's chops on this track may be ruining the thing for me, it's just so bland it's not funny, he laid the same style fills on Rainmaker and Wildest Dreams and it's just not inevnting. Bah, what the hell is wrong with me, i'm off my head!! I know what you mean - the drums seem quite slow, and rather than keeping a song going and puts it on the edge of it's toes, like it does in Moonchild, It seems to be laid back, drawing the music out and perhaps even slowing it down.

By the looks of it these songs have divided some opinions, i wouldn't know because when i hear these new songs for the first time i want it be pumping through my stereo not through some PC speakers. Beenjamin Breeg sounds rather average through my speakers but when i hear it properly it could change my opinion.
