I'm going to wait methinks....nothing like spinning a new album whilst perusing the booklet, with a fine ale in the hand DITTO

I listened to the album about 3 times yesterday.
It's an awesome thing.
There's only 2 songs that i'm yet to connect to, the other 8 i think are fricking awesome. There's heaps of new stuff IMO, and the band is really pushing themselves.
Awesome production, cant say enough about it, sounds like they are really playing in my lounge room.

i'm slowly getting into it, trouble I have is it sounds like a Blaze album with Bruce singing IMHO. But my thoughts may change.
Out of the Shadows is the standout track, the best song on the labum I think.
And these colors dont run still sucks. ;D

I also think it is a pretty good track, doesn't appear to have the same raw power but good regardless. Still need to listen to album properly though.

Out of the Shadows is brilliant!
And TCDR and Pilgrim are slowly growing on me. You are right Thorpey, about the motivation behind the lyrics on TCDR, its interesting in that regard and I quite like the chorus.
Its really hard for me to pick a standout, because I like all of the songs (in varying degrees) and I havent been able to say that about a Maiden album for a loooooooong time.

I'm enjoying reading all your reviews, TCDR sounds like it has divided opinions. Can't wait to hear it.

I agree, IronDave, the chorus is good on TCdR, I am finding that it puts a smile on my face. The Pilgrim makes me shudder, not sure what it is that I like but it is definately growing on me. Still too early to tell what the whole album dies for me as yet, only heard it in the car and I can't listen as such!! Got to get a quieter car, me thinks, something a little less like a go-kart that talks to you so much. This weekend I'll have it on the stereo and I will really listen to it. Out of the Shadows and The Longest Day, both seem to bring a shiver down my spine, they sound so epic, like they tell a story with every twist and turn. I think everyone will be happy, but you do need to let it grow on you. BTaTS still rocks and has to be my early favourite. Track 10, The Legacy is something I need to listen too, as I haven't had the chance other than at work on a crap PC. It did sound so inspiring with like 3 songs in one, so immense.

The reason you shudder at The pilgrim is because the opening riff is lame coz Janick wrote it and it's a Mother Russia rip off. The rest of the song is okay but that opening riff is just Janick's writing at it's worst - most of his stuff is pretty lame, although the Legacy is actually a great song.

Cheers Beetle for your insight, yes I do shudder a little at The Pilgrim but not really in a bad way, I admit whilst the opening grabs me a bit, drums mainly. It does seem a little cold at the start (sort of) but when you hear the middle of the song it does impress me.
As for the Mother Russia, I'll need to do a comparision but I take your word for it.

you are spot on about the "coldness" of the opening, it doesnt seem to match the remainder of the song in my opinion, it needs to be layered more..

Ilove the intro to the pilgrim! Its awesome, sometimes simple tunes like that rock! And yes, when i was listening to it i thought it did sound abit like mother russia, but i like that song so its all cool!
Out of the Shawdows is the worst song on the album id have to say.
Best song is For The Greater Good Of God. Its the Pachendale of this album.
